Re: Vinyl Flooring | | I work as a spec rep for a well known contract vinyl manufacturer.
I saw this post whilst looking for answers about using porcelain tiles on my bathroom floor, so obviously I'm not going to say which vinyl manufacturer.
Our standard spec for floorboards would be 6mm t&g waterproof ply, mechanically fixed at 150mm centres. Fixings must be brought below level of board, filled and sanded to avoid tearing vinyl on install. Joints must be stable and level.
Although vinyl sheet is flexible and therefore will continue to work if you don't get a stable floor, however your big enemy is photographing of floor texture (floorboard joints etc) through vinyl over time. We've not found a flexible underlay that completely solves this problem, so it really has to be ply for a good job but you could go down to 4mm if you really wanted to cut costs. |
