Default Following up a quote.

We have all been there given quotes and heard nothing. But what would you do in this instance.

Was asked to quote a kitchen floor that was badly out of level. I told the customer it could be tiled but it would not look level as it was that bad. He was disappointed but his wife said they would discuss an alternative. I know it seems that I have turned work away but I didn't want the situation of doing the work and them not happy with the job and refusing payment.

The conversation turned to "do you tile walls", "how much for the kitchen splashback" when I gave them the price they seemed quite happy. I measured up and told them how many tiles to get. They then asked for a card with the promise to ring the next day with what they had decided. Later that evening I even let them know where they could get some specific trim from.

Could do with the work but do not want to appear pushy, what now ?

Sorry forgot to add if it isn't obvious the phone call never came.

I have personally never rang any back chasing a quote but there is nothing wrong with doing it in my opinion and if need be i'd do it.

If you need the work then ring them mate, they can only say no and you'll lose nothing.

Just ring and ask if the price you gave them was any good to them....

Start the phone call off with " hi just a courtesy call to see if you have made a descision, or do you have any questions to be answered "?

My experince tells me that you have to wait for the return call ,then you can be sure, there genuine and happy. would not enjoy the pressure sales pitch of calling them ,They contacted you in the first place,so they can contact you again.

A problem, is a new challenge

you could always call back and say you've just negotiated a deal with a local tile shop and you're in a position to offer a 10% discount on materials 'saving you x£s'
ok so you've dropped your price a little and you're chasing a quote but now it looks like you're doing them a favour...

I know it costs nothing to call back on whatever pretence but it is the opinion of my partner that by them not ringing it is obvious they have changed their mind and it would only put them on the spot by doing a call back. Im not desperate just annoyed that they didn't call when i would have put money on it.

In this specific case it would be interesting to know how they dealt with the problem of the uneven floor.
You could ring many weeks later and just ask how they dealt with and whether they were happy with the result.

you could always ring up and say that you were doing a bit of market research, and that you were telephoning around all the quotes you've given out over the last month or two that you've not received work from, and ask them for the reason they had decided not to go with you, tell them that the information you are receiving will help with your pricing structure etc, if they have not had the job done, you may then get it.....
