HELP ceramic wall tiling on ply HELP PVA???

Noticed A Small Tub Of Bal Adhesive Wat Did It Say On The Back Of It All Surfaces Should Be Sealed With A Pva Mix Of 4 To 1 I Rest My Case

Which particular BAL adhesive was it, can you enlighten us please?

pva only seals the dust,whereas the tilers primer helps adhesion.just roll it on the night before and start to tile next morning.i get mine from discount tiles in stockton(dont know if its only north east as 1 in newcastle too)but im sure any decent tile place should sell it too-no B+Q etc.

Could you not just go over the pva with acrylic primer??? Don't know if it would work but I can't see why not.

hi dave.hope you can clear something up for me.i always use a primer BUT the 1 iv been using last year or so is from discount tiles and fairly cheap.it has had a shiny cling filmy look to it and i thought it just that make but just reading another thread(which month has run out and cant reply)it states that it isnt a primer if got a rubbery film.can you please enlighten me as if it isnt a tilers primer,as what they state,i wont be using agen and my friend wont be happy.done hers a few mnths ago-tiles still up tho(hopefully forever)and they cost her a lot of money as its 30m2

Usually if the primer has dried with a rubbery finish then you have not mixed it to the correct ratio..usually 4:1..4 parts water to one part primer.....it should state on the bottle the mixing ratio for certain substrates.....basicly if it is an impregnating sealer and not one that coats the surface( like PVA) then it will be OK...but as i said it will probably just need more water.....you also might want to go onto the primers manufactures website and see if there is a pdf or summit with more info on it and more detail on its uses........

Agree with above. I`m new to this and one of the first things i learnt on here......STAY AWAY FROM PVA!!! (My god, i`m a poet and didn`t even know it!!)

The primer that is recommended for a 4:1 dilution (for certain applications) is the BAL Bond which is an SBR (styrene-butadiene).

Bal APD on the other hand is a modified acrylic polymer dispersion type which isolates products containing calcium sulphate like gypsum plaster, and cement based adhesives from reacting with one another.....Gaz
