Default laying out issue...

I have been asked to tile a living room floor and kitchen floor and the client wants the tile to be layed in adiamond formation.

This is my first major job and i haven't tiled like this before.. Do i just lay out like i normally would and rotate the tile? or is there anything else to take into account?

Thanks for any help....

Do you mean like, looking at the square tile and twisting it to be a diamond shape from your view point ?

Because if you are, and Im not missing something from your post then any form of tiling will be diamond if you look at it from the right angle.

Me, I'd just start laying the same as normal, centering the room, then working from one diagonal to the other

Yes that is it.. so when you walk into the room you are looking at the point of the tile first...
So if i lay out as normal and lay the tiles at an ange that makes them square...

Yeah, just center the room as normal, check how the cuts will fall all the way around the room, then if thats all good, start tiling, making sure you start tiling so the angle of the tile is how the customers wants to see it entering the room.

As I said before, all tiling can be view as diamond, just depends on where you look at it from.

so Fekin, just so's I'm understanding you right, are you saying you would lay your first row of diamonds point to point in line with the wall in front and behind you or would you work diaganally across the room and lay your tiles straight?

Iwould just tile as normal, just making sure the tile was at the right angle, point towards the direction the customer wantred it to be.

Point to point, no, flat edge to flat edge yes, like normal.

Nice pic pete..shows how to square off properly...it also might be worth advising the customer to put a half tile effect border around the rooms perimeter and then cut the 45dg diamond to this..it looks better...creates a picture frame effect...but its up to the customer really....

I think that would make more sense and almost certainly be easier. I suppose with diamond pattern I always worry about where the tiles meet the walls. its easier to see if the walls or the tiling isn't straight.
