quoting for first job

ok quoting for my first job as going self employed its a new build apartment i was wondering on a few rough ideas of what to quote

kitchen floor - 5m2 approx
bathroom floor- 4 m2 approx
ensuite floor 3m 2 approx

ive done alot of bathroom floor before for previous tiling firms as this is my first job i want to quote a sensible price, there is also another tiler going to quote for it aswell so i really want this job.

im guessin the kitchen floor is concrete and the bathroom and ensuite floors r chipboard/plywood

this job is supply and fix ( adhesive and grout ) im quite young but i have 4 years experience in the trade and i have a portfolio of previous work

any ideas on a price guys would be helpful oh i forgot to tell u the sink and toilet
are fixed in so i would have to cut round them ( bathroom and ensuite)

You should make sure that the kitchen floor is concrete before you start.
Not sure how fast a tiler you are?
You should be able to lay all three floors in 1 day, then grout all three the following.
I would probably price £150 for laying 1 day, then £75 for grouting the following.
Since you are supplying materials aswell charge them full price for your materials, so you are making a little on them also.

If you have to lay bakerboard, charge full for your materials, and half a shift for laying.

If you have 4 years experience you should manage if they are cermaic tiles. I`ve been going 8 months, and thats what i can manage. I do an 8am till around 5, and manage that comfortably. if you are fitting backerboard allow some extra time for that. But you should get £150 per shift. I konw prices vary around the country, but thats what i price per day up here.

I would charge in the region of £300 depending on the amount of prep work and what sort of tiles they are - plus materials. It is up to you weather you pass any savings onto your customers. I would take the toilet and basin out to make things easy for myself if possible. Good luck I know its very nerve wracking to begin with!

LM Ceramics where is the location of the place where you are quoting tomorrow, I am also quoting on the same m2 in a new build appartment, just sounds a bit close to the one I am doing although there are probably loads of such quotes tomorrow......interesting. Mine is in the Linen Quarter.

Just price it to what you think you can get done. You should go for the day rate though because there isnt a ot of m2 invloved.

in my experience i would give a price for the whole job.....(inc. or ex. materials)
these small rooms take longer than you think, sometimes (most) you need to wait for the rapid to set before you can put the last few cuts in!!!!!!!!!


if you are going to go down the day rate road i would lay each floor individually and put the cuts in that i can, then instead of waiting for the adhesive to harden move on to the next room and so on....the last thing you will have to do is put in a few cuts in each room and grout em up.....hence 3 days labour.....
2 days to tile em and a easy day to go back and grout,clean up and pack away your tools

I would guess that the kitchen is also chipboard mate most are in these new builds i go to.

Dont forget to charge them for laying the ply (or equiv).
