Default Questions on Aquapanel, Hardibacker etc.

Hello folks, as I mentioned in the newbies section, I got some questions on cement boards and stuff related. I am from Germany and I am strongly interested in the British market because of my job for a German newspaper. Help would be appreciated, I'm quite desperate...

Well, let's start...

First of all, I'd like to know how many professional applicators, I mean tilers etc, of cement boards exist in the UK at the moment. I know it's hard to say, but a rough estimate would be good.

Can someone give an estimate how many m2 cement boards were installed in the UK in 2007 alltogether? How many will it be in 2011? How many in bathrooms, swimming pools, commercial kitchens etc?

What are the advantages / disadvantages of cement boards?

What are the strength and weaknesses of Knauf Aquapanel and Hardibacker?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Consul, welcome to the forums. I think you are directing your questions at the wrong forum for such figures as projected installation of board in 2011. I think you should be talking to the the likes of Knuaff or other manufacturers for your research, even the Tile Trade Association may be a better place for you.

The guys on here are predominatly professional tilers, trainers and retailers offering advice on tiling to whoever needs it. if you have specific questions regarding tile setting, wall/floor prep etc. then we are the people.

I don't think you will get the info you are looking for on here.

Have to agree with grumps on the figures questions ....
We can however help with a poll on the forums as to how many members(tilers) use these products if this will help with your research...let us know if that will help.....as for the use of these products we use them for building wet-rooms etc...there uses are mainly for substrates prone to wetting....you will get feedback as to what people use them for but as to how many then a poll might help..otherwise its a manufacturer's question....
