Re: tiling over asphalt | | Hello protilers. My, resp. our, advice(s) acc. to your a.m. job and pictures is depending on your site conditions. Check this: Any tiling, direct or with a drain system like Gutjahrīs Watec matting: You need a slope where any water can run to a draining point. So, have a slope or refuse the job. Tiling with a drain matting system: As mentioned above, you need a slope and a point where the leakage water and surface rain water can run to. Adhesive and grouting acc. to. Gutjahrīs recommendations for UK. For direct tiling: Slope needed as a.m.
Your asphalt seems to have a smooth surface. For the a.m. drain matting system okay butyou are not able to tile direct on it as you need a sanded asphalt surface as the adhesive needs it for better grip. If you donīt have that, you canīt tile direct and refuse the job.
If you have, you can tile direct buttering-floating by taking a C2-certified adhesive containing fine trass to reduce the danger of calcium carbonate spots which might occur within the years, especially at the stair riser grouting. This is something you should notice to your customer as it CAN occur and you canīt prevent.
Same with grouting: A grout containing fine trass would be my choice, better a flexible fine trass containing grout.
