| Meet the limstone Cowboy | | Hi all just wanted to share a funny story with you all, anyways My mate who is a Jack of all trades but master of non decided to dab and dot 450 x 450 floor tiles on a wooden floor, i went to give him a hand to fix the rest of the shower and do some silicon around the shower tray and walls. Anyways i noticed the grout had started to crack and the tiles started to move so we started to get the tiles up to see what was the problem. It turned out he had dob and dab the backs of the tiles, he said he does it all the time no problems at all never no come backs. I couldn't believe my eyes, His excuse was that the mapei keraflex maxi had not been left long enough before walking on (he had left it 12 hours) I thought bollocks, so anyways he went in to topps tiles in kidderminster and they said that mapei products were a load of **** and that was the cause of it. So just be aware of the limestone cowboy and Topps very bad advice. | | |

| Re: Meet the limstone Cowboy | | Mapei adhesive is really good stuff. They're a huge company, far bigger than BAL. They just haven't had the same chance as BAL here in the UK.
I'm sure it's Mapei that recently invested in a manless factory. Everything is done with robots and machines. They have some serious amount of cash to invest.
I wouldn't help your mate in future, you'll end up with your name on his bad jobs. | Dan |

| Re: Meet the limstone Cowboy | | Dan i totally agree, it a mazes me what people get up. I have seen on site tillers just as bad, hopefully when everybody is NVQ qualified it might get rid of the cowboys and sort out the subcontractors bad work of practice. | | |

| Re: Meet the limstone Cowboy | | They don't sell mapei products and yes there is a topps tiles in kidderminster next to tile clearance and before the big island which is next to sealine. I live near the merryhill centre and topps say they have a branch there but they don't, what they have is a tile clearance centre which is owened by topps to get rid of there discountinued lines and sell cheaper lines of tiles. I Think Mapei products are about the best all round, yes Bal are too. But Mapei have a longer history in the tiling business and they get all the big contracts and i could bet you a dollar that they will supply most the material for the olympics. I have a meeting with weber next week if the guy turns to demo some of there products but i haven't been to impressed so far. | | |
