Default How to prepare surfaces for tiling above bath

Hi

I am about to start my first ever tiling job this weekend and have been given lots of conflicting advice from friends.

I want to tile above the bath to the ceiling and turn it into a shower/bath.

Currently there is one row of tiles which I want to get rid of and the rest of the wall is painted. Do I need to prepare the painted surface with some waterproofing or primer if so what should I use? Also I'm expecting that when
I chip the old tiles off I will be left with plaster. How do I prepare this?

I tested the paint using a strip of tape overnight and it didn't flake off so I guess the paint is OK to hold the tiles.

Thanks for any help.

BB

Always rough up or remove the paint completely if possible. Also if in doubt, prime it out!! Use APD primer too not PDA. Hope this helps!!
