Hi,
I have a wall and floor booked in just after xmas and I was wondering what the best approach would be as its my first time doing more than just walls !

I have 2 days to do the job
Should I just do the walls complete on day one then do the floor complete on day 2 (with a long break before grouting ?) or fix the wall then start say dry cut the floor on day one then finish floor and grout both on day two ?
How would you do this to make the best of your time ?

how big are the areas

walls 3.5 m2 4"tiles
floor 7m2 12"tiles

Ps first time for a "paying" floor so I will prob be slow !

I would do all the walls first and grout them. Then do the floor area. Nothing worse than doing a floor then dropping adhesive and grout all over it especially after its been cleaned up!! Just my opinion but thats what I would do.

might be an idea when you finish the walls to put a few tiles on the floor so the next day you have somthing to walk on then grout the walls first then finish the cuts if you use rapid then grout the floor Pete

I agree walls then floor, you would'nt plaster the walls then do the ceiling

tile walls first then set out your floor so you have an idea of where your cuts will be the following day.2ND day clean walls and grout them then tile the floor using rapidset and come back 3hrs later and grout.Check that the floor does or doesnt need plying out and check the condition of the walls for tiling beforehand.Best to leave the floor till last as the guys above have explained.

Good luck with your job, mate. Suspect it will take longer than two days though. 3.5m of 4" tiles is about 350 tiles to fix, you may need to grout the wall at the beginning of day 2 unless you are going to use rapidset on the wall. A lot depends on how may obstacles you have to cut around.

It is a good tip from PJC to try and get some tiles on the floor and have them set overnight so you have something to walk on. Again, rapidset would help if you can't do it the day before.

i did a similar sized wall with those diddy tiles and it took 2 days what with the nippy sockets and metal trims...... probabaly take more than day for floor too depending on cuts...

The optimum use of time is to either let the floor dry overnight, or lay enough of the floor on day 1 so that you can access the walls on day 2. What you want to avoid is on day 2 fixing the floor and having to wait for it to dry before grouting whilst doing nothing.

Depending on room layout I would fix wall tiles for maybe 3/4 of day 1. Then fix enough floor tiles so you can gain access to the walls when dry. Day 2 - finish sticking wall tiles if necessary, stick rest of floor, grout walls, grout floor. No wasted time.

Great advice there grump, couldn't agree with you more, I would have allowed 3 days for this.

As the other guys have said, walls first then floor.
