help with 1st ufh job.

Ive got 1st ufh job on monday.20 sqm porcelain with warmafloor heating. Ive advised customer to have insulation boards laid first but she says she is skint and isnt bother about extra time to heat and energy inefficiency! She doesnt want to pay anymore for materials(supplied with tiles) ie slc to go over matting pre tiling.And i aint paying for them.

So heres a couple of questions for ya
1/ Can i flip matting,stick down and tile over to minimise hitting circuit wire?
2/ Do i channel out floor for heating probe or just lay under matting?
3/ Do you mark out floor then put matting down or vice versa, (obscuring lines etc)
4/Im getting cust to sign disclaimer to say i advised to insulate floor but declined.Is this out of order?
And lastly Im charging £30.00 psqm and day rate o f £140.00 to install ufh with sparky doing electrics.Is this a fair enough price.
Ive got the plan of the floor and the sparky has put a socket at floor level for matting. ANY advice greatly appreciated. Cheers

Rate is spot on mate.

Try to channel floor out for temp probe if you can, tends to be a bit bigger than the heating cables.

With Warmup underfloor heating you can tile straight on top, not sure if you can with the make you have. Look at instructions for laying it, that will tell you what you need to do.

Probably wouldn't bother with the disclaimer. Customer made the decision.

i just laid tiles directly over ufh this week so slc not needed. Also sparky, who laid matting didnt insulate nor did he clean or seal floor 1st. Found this out when id finished and i asked him what he'd used. Always channel out for sensors, be like tiling over a pencil. The sparky didnt channel mine out and in just 8m he used two mats and 2 sensors. Job for kitchen company who sorted it all out. I wouldnt be suprised if customer rings up when floor takes an age to heat up as on concrete and when tiles pop off. Funny thing was i quoted to lay matting which included insulating and sealing. Bet i was cheaper n all which is why kitchen co were so keen they did it!!

The sensor is better off being sunk into the substrate between the elements of the UFH and not across them..it must be at least 300mmm into the room and at least 50mm away from the UFH elements......good lkuck and let us know how you get on...

Many may disagree - but I always self level over UFH before tiling.
In my opinion this ensures that the mat is protected so that it is unlikely that it will get damaged by your trowell. Also importantly you can press on and get a good solid bed of adhesive, without possible air gaps that may impair adhesion and affect the performance of the UFH.
