What trowel and tile spacer should I use
Hi,
can you tell me what size of notches should I go for when using 500mmx250mm wall tiles and 300mmx300mm floor tiles.
I know that you tell 8mm notches for wall and 10mm for floor, but according to tilles manufacturer the adhesive should not be more than 5mm. So what should I use?
And what spacer should I use, or does it depend on my own preferences?
Thank you in advance.

8mm for your wall and 10mm for the floor is sufficient. When you push the tile into the notched glue it will compress, but i dont know why the tile manufacturer would state no more then 5mm glue.
Are you planning on laying the walls tile staggered, like a brick pattern?
What style do the tile edges have? Sharp or rounded?

The are a tiny bit rounded, but I would say it is sharp more than round

Re: What trowel and tile spacer should I use
for floor tile i would use 10 mm round notch for that size tile on walls min 8mm, i would also back skim the wall tile as well with flat edge of trowel
what material are the tiles , ceramic , porcelain or other, use a powdered addy , not ready mixed 2mm spaces walls 3mm floor
what is the substrates of the walls and floor

Re: What trowel and tile spacer should I use
If in doubt spread the wall up with the 8mm, stick a tile on and then pull it off again to see what the coverage is like. If it's not great then push up a notch. I always say bigger is better cos it keeps the nipper busy mixing!!

These are ceramic tiles, I will be using flexible powdered addy Substrates of walls are stud walls and plastering. I am thinking if I should exchange stud wall, and put hardibacker boards instead. Floor will be hardibacker or marmox board (using flexible addy, for tiles floor heating)

Re: What trowel and tile spacer should I use
As has been said above. You want a min of 8mm for the walls and I would also recommend skimming the back of the tile, a solid bed 10mm half moon trowel for the floor and again, back butter the tile before pressing it into the adhesive bed. Have a real through the link below for a little bit more info on different trowels.

Oh and with regard to the spacers, 2mm for walls usually and a min of 3mm on the floor

Re: What trowel and tile spacer should I use
With large formats I use 3mm spacers on floors and walls, but always ask the customer if they have any preference for narrow or wide joints. Theyre rarely all exactly the same size so 3mm gives you a bit more leeway to even out the joints.
Ive started using a smaller trowel (6mm) with large formats and applying the ady to both the walls AND the tile for good coverage

Re: What trowel and tile spacer should I use
the above info is correct, when using your spacers stand them on end, dont push them down flat. Its a much better practise and makes it easier to adjust tiles when laying.
