| Pay the bills | | Hi all,
OK as I mentioned redundant in January my question can I earn a comparative if not better living tiling self employed, info below to help you advise me, to say I am worried about the futre and my family home is an understatement.
Currently earn 25k a year
In a senior marketing and sales position
Dabbled in property rennovation with someone elses money for five years
Very good at tiling but would definetly attend a short course
Lots of contacts in plumbing, construction, property developers small and large
The full support of my wife should I go for it.
Already had offers of jobs from trade contracts who I have talked to.
Yes or No... You decide (or at least advise, afraid my wife makes the decisions, I wear the trousers she just picks which pair)

This decision is yours alone mate......
You can earn a very good wage once you get established...
You say you are good at tiling now..so don't think a course will benefit you unless you have'nt done much stone work then maybe you could do a stone course....let us know what you decide mate.....good luck in your new career....

| Thanks dh. My worry is slowly turning to excitement. My biggest concern is managing in the first few months but hopefuuly the bread and butter work with the property developers like Stamford and Keiger will pay the bills. Be aware I will become a serial post maker anbd knowledge leech. Thanks in advance. | | |

| I was made redundant and went straight to self employed tiler. Used some of the redundancy money to do a 2 week course. Picked up lots of tips from them. Also decided to advertise in local parish magazines and free press. So far (6 yrs) I have not had a week without work unless I decided not to work. My average earnings are about £1400 a month, some of this comes from offering additional services such as basic plumbing, carpentry and kitchen fitting. I work on and off with a small group of other tradesmen/women who can offer a full service for our clients. I work in the S E England, west of London.
Hope this helps.
