I might have quite stupid question. Can I start tiling from ceiling?
Why would you want to?

Make sure the ceiling is level first !

I wouldn't advise actually tiling down from ceiling but it could be set out from ceiling and then once set out you can start tiling upwards.....cant think of any reason you would really want to start from the ceiling ??

the chances of the ceiling being level all the way round are slim , you would need to find the highest point and start from there, but at some point would end up taking slithers of the tiles , much easier to have a decent cut , and looks a lot better, ok

could start from ceiling if doing small mosaic tiles, but not normal tiles![]()

The old man used to hang mosaics with neat wet cement straight on to a wet s+c screeded walls. I remember watching two guys trying to remove 1 inch glass mosaics done the same way many years ago. It took the two of them each with a large kango two days to remove about 6 sq mtrs. The installation was so hard that there were sparks flying out everywhere. I was quite impressed.
Those were the days when a really good tiler would be pleased to get up 5 mtrs for the day![]()

starting from the ceiling would be the same as starting from a skirting board, very rarely level
They work from the ceiling down in Italy

stil, start from floor. just work out from size of tile, so you would have full tile to ceiling, or bigger cut to ceiling.

one word gravity![]()

Yes but you dont have to start tiling from the top, just set out carefully and start fixing from bottom up.

I just find out that the ceiling is not perfectly leveled. As I want to avoid cutting top tiles at all, does it mean that the battern which I use, should not be leveled. Or is there some way to get around it, without cutting top tiles (this is not advertisement)![]()

You will need to keep tiles on the level most ceilings are not level .sorry you need to cut. or use cornice over the tiles to hide the problem

If you really don't want to cut the top tiles at all - then you could set out the best you can & then create a level ceiling after (new level battened frame & re-board & skim the ceiling).
A lot of work though.
Think I'd just set-out as normal & maybe take off just enough to get round the unlevel ceiling (5cm ish should prob do it). Maybe.
How far off level is your ceiling? KEEP the tiles level. If you dont it will just create problems elsewhere.
Tiling from the ceiling down takes some experience, it can get ugly fast.
Starting from the floor, you can still have the full tile or near full tile at the ceiling
Lay your wall tiles with spacers out dry on a flat floor. This will give you an exact measurement.
Measure the distance between the floor and ceiling. Allow 3-5mm between the top of the tiles and ceiling for silicone or aycrl.
*Make sure you find the highest point on the ceiling and measure from there.
Mark this on your set out tiles.
Mark the tile that you want at the bottom. Cut this tile.
Mark the height of this cut tile on your wall where you measured down from and draw a level line around the walls being tiled.
Precision is the key here, once you have put on the 1st row measure again from ceiling to top edge of the 1st row of tiles.
Check this against your dry set out tiles. This measurement should be full tiles.
You will have to trim the tiles where the ceiling is low.

i quite often tile from the ceiling but always tile level if i can

I think this is the same tile, I just set out as usual, good cuts to floor and ceiling. Sorry pics are not very good.
