At least you guys get a choice, regs only allow us to use what you call tile backer boards (from what I can make out) known to us as wetroom boards, depending where I shop it's usually wedi or litex.

I do mean building regs, known to us as byggebransjens våtromsnorm, got to stick to it to the level of paranoia.

I had a similar feeling with insulation. My inspector must have had shares in Celotex. Insulation mad he was.
Good job he never looked at the shower then.
Regs can go too far at times i feel.

You're right but we can't cut corners here, all work (by law) has a 10 year warranty, so say an inspector from an insurance company is called in over a leak or loose tiles and he sees shoddy work then I've had it. For some reason there is huge paranoia here with wetrooms, membrane companies make fortunes.

Over here insurance companys pay out millions to home owners who have had shoddy work done with no tanking in the shower/bathrooms and there's no rules to who does the work...

Do tilers in the UK have to have qualifications like a sparky or boiler engineer?

I know mate I'm English and did my time there. Here the insurance companies will pay out on work 10 years or older, but if the installation is under 10 years they go for the contractor. If the contractor has gone bankrupt, they'll pay out. If the contractor's still up and running, the contractor gets a set amount of time to put job right or gets sent the bill for the repairs. I do have public liability insurance, luckily not had to use it yet, touch wood and whistle and all that

Marmox is the winner for me. Mainly because I just love the self adhesive tape, no messing about painting mapeigum on or anything like that.

    One question with Aquapanel.
On the boards it says " visible side when installed" . That side being the smooth side.
On their web site it says "Aquapanel is ready keyed to take tiles up to 50 kg/m2 as soon as the boards are installed."
    That being the other side.
So what is the correct side to tile on.

Just looked at some i have here.

    Try this

    Tiling
Always use a quality polymer modified based
flexible tile adhesive, following the manufacturer’s
instructions. Tile on the smooth side of the board.
