Re: What silicone do you use?
if it's white or clear i use bal microseal but if i'm grouting with mapei ultracolour i use the colour match one from mapei

Re: What silicone do you use?
Mapei for colour and Everbuild from Tradetiler for white.

That's what I use Mike but I'm having a problem with the Bal adhering to a shower tray. It's a concrete tray. I personally think there using too soon (about 12 hours) Never had a problem before with it & there's defo no movement in the tray. It's adhering to the tiles no problem. It's either a bad batch of silicone or they are using it too soon

it could be a technical issue(we've had a similar problem on here recently) i had a customer use the shower 2 hours after i siliconed recently but the silicon was okay. i have had some dodgy bal silicon (out of date) from topps, so i check it now

Re: What silicone do you use?
Dow for me, I'd never use Everbuild again as its weak and goes black too quickly.

Re: What silicone do you use?
I use either Mapei or Otto silicone.

Well, they've changed the White Microseal to the Micromax. Chin'd them about the Microseal & apparently, it was the same problem across the board so it's been replaced. If it does what it says on the tube, I'll b happy & at eight quid, it better lol

Re: What silicone do you use?
Curious to know what the technical issue was.
I remember that thread about the dodgy silicone Mike. what was the final verdict with that ? Was it just too old and failed. Would be interested to know if these two issues were similar with not just the same failure as it seems to be, but whether the technical fault was also similar, ie out of date, product compatibility etc.

It was rich who had the problem but his silicon was mapei and the tech dept helped him out, do a search on his threads and you'll find it

-
-
Re: What silicone do you use?
either mapei or pci whichever grout colour im using we match it
-

Well, that's me used the Micromax this afternoon. Seems thicker than the Microseal. The white is more like an ivory compared to the Microseal. There are no used by dates, just batch numbers so got a box of the same batch which he assured was just in. Should find out tomorrow from the customer whether it works or not.

Re: What silicone do you use?
I use micromax, nice stuff. Goes off fairy quickly which is good for those impatient customers!

For white and clear I use Sealux and for colours I use Mapei.....

I've used everbuild in the past for worktops etc but found it too watery. There caulk is not bad though

Re: What silicone do you use?
Everbuild white and mapei for colour grouts..

Re: What silicone do you use?
Microseal has simply been replaced as micromax to compliment the colour matching micromax grout range, not because there was any problem with it.

Re: What silicone do you use?
As Bubblecraft has said Everbuild is too watery. It doesn't fill me with any confidence, I use Dow and i wouldnt' use anything else. Everbuild Everwhite is sold in 'Grahams' plumbers merchants and as with alot of there budget products...you get what you pay for..... Merry Christmas..

Re: What silicone do you use?
I wonder if there are different types then because this is no where near what I would call watery ! Its not as "stiff" as Microban though but definately on par with the consistency of Mapei !!

Re: What silicone do you use?

Re: What silicone do you use?
When I started out 4 years ago as a plumber/bathroom fitter I used Everbuild silicone and I've been back to a lot of these houses to do other jobs and I've noticed that the silicone (in about 2 years) has either gone black or has come away.
So I changed to Dow about 18 months ago, it has a smoother finish and so far at home the shower tray seal is still white.

Very puzzled then due to my own bathroom and kitchen being siliconed over 3 years ago with no issues at all ?
