Tile cutting problem / advice!!!
Evening lads, i am in the middle of a job where the customer wants a part tile continuing from the floor onto the wall (acting as a skirting board) a straight forward job until i scored and tried to crack the tiles, only 1 in 4 tiles followed the score line the others just broke away in their own direction, i even changed manual cutters from my standard heavy duty to my rubi ts 60 plus but it was the same result, eventually i had to cut them using my angle grinder, i had this problem with a tile about 2 years ago but have never had a problem since until today. The tile was a straight forward 330 x330 x 7.77mm thick floor tile, ceramic with a rippled / splash effect finish, the only solution i can come up with is that it was a poor quality tile but even then they should cut straight shouldn,t they?? does anybody have any orther ideas why this happend??? Thanks in advance for any information!!!

Do you have a pic of a tile..

Re: Tile cutting problem / advice!!!
Hi cityone, you do come across these type of tiles on occasion ,no matter what you do they seem to split off in their own direction, from experience and its just my opinion the lighter you scribe them the more they seem to break were they should ,failing that mate you will just have to wet cut them as an angle grinder is not precise enough imho.

Re: Tile cutting problem / advice!!!
Have you tried scouring then breaking on the corner of a wall, both hands on the tile(one on each half "hopefully")I've done it in the past with problem tiles the shock seems to do the job,you could also grind in 10-15mm from both sides.

scribe and tap the back with a pin hammer.

Re: Tile cutting problem / advice!!!
hi
ive had this with a porcelain 600x300 on my rubi txn700, i changed the scoring wheel for a brand new one and they cut perfectly afterwards.
other than that wet cut them.
Homebase,Wickes and B&Q haunt me...................... just terrible standard tiles in my opinion, i wont even put up some Wickes tiles.

I would try the pin hammer, trial and error sometimes.

Re: Tile cutting problem / advice!!!
I had this a while ago with homebase black floor tiles.
In the end I scored them on my rubi and then laid them over a piece of wood (with card under it to protect the tiles) and simply stood on either side of the score line and it snapped perfectly well (got pretty efficient with it in the end lol)

Re: Tile cutting problem / advice!!!
Hi.
I had this problem recently. Had to score the edges as a continuation of the cut with a hand scriber. No problems after that.
