Re: recommended Adhesive for fixing ceramic tile to skimmed/painted wall
the thing with tubbed adhesive is you cant use it to pack out so if the walls are out its not really suitable safer to opt for your cement based

Re: recommended Adhesive for fixing ceramic tile to skimmed/painted wall
What size is the area to be tiled ?
If just a small kitchen splash back on a flat wall, you will get away with tubbed. But remove paint if posible.
If not sure, speak to the supplier who will give advice.

and...once the paint is removed, use a proper tilers primer before you tile.

You can only pack out so far with powder addy, depends what it states on the bag.
What size are your ceramics? if they are a max of 300mm x 300mm then i would use a tubbed adhesive if your walls are flat.

did i stipulate what depths you could and couldnt go to? i dont think i did.
i am well aware you can only pack out so far and since seka is asking about a splashback area i would assume there isnt huge voids
please dont try and belitle me

Re: recommended Adhesive for fixing ceramic tile to skimmed/painted wall
Just have to say, i would never use tubbed addy in any circumstance even a splashback , i would rather mix a small batch of powdered addy. When i put them on i want them to stay on..Fixed too many jobs were powdered addy was used and could off scraped it off with paint scraper.

Whos trying to belittle you?
seka asked a question & im just trying to answer it.
You stated to pack it out, i was only pointing out that you can only go so far with a powder the way you can with tubbed adhesive
This was directed at seka because they wont know these things, thats why they are on here, for advice.

Kilty, I wasnt meaning anything by posting your quote, I didnt realise that it would have that effect.
I was only pointing this out to seka about the adhesive.
Crack open a beer & i will do the same with a bottle of Peroni, been a long day.

Re: recommended Adhesive for fixing ceramic tile to skimmed/painted wall
I would recommend a powder adhesive, if you are worried about the pot life then you could look at getting a standard setting adhesive instead of a rapid.

Re: recommended Adhesive for fixing ceramic tile to skimmed/painted wall
I'd recommend mapei's product P9. It's lovely adhesive, very easy to mix, very smooth to trowel and it's got a pot life of 8 hours. That means it'll last in your bucket that long. Great because you're not gonna be going for it on a kitchen as it's all stop start. Like everyone has said, get the paint off, prime it with a proper primer (very very important) and crack on!
