My second question - cutting glass mosaics
First question solved. Now I want to cut sheets of glass mosaics. I have a fairly crappy wet saw that I bought from B&Q to cut some slate tiles for my hearth, will this do the job? How do I keep the tiles from moving around as I feed them through the saw? Any advice gratefully received!

Re: My second question - cutting glass mosaics
use a grinder and a diamond 'glass' blade. put them on a piece of rubber or cardboard to cut to prevent them moving, and watch your fingers!

Same as Mike, cut them dry as you may find that the water from a wet saw will soften the glue and the mosaics will fall off the mesh.

Re: My second question - cutting glass mosaics
If you (or other readers of this post) need to cut holes into glass mosaics (prior to grouting) then our diamond core PORSADRILL system is perfect.
Our yellow guideplate grips glass mosaics firmly unlike suction clamps which just fall off.

As you can see on this demo tile (splattered with 30mm holes!) we also drilled into the mosaics.
You can clearly see the result of a full hole diamond core drilled into both the main tile and the mosaics.
Perfect result.
And you can see where we started to drill with a 16mm diamond core on the mosaic.

Simply push down on the yellow anti-slip guide plate and it locks all the glass or tile mosaics together so that they dont move.
Then drill your hole through them. Because the diamond core tile drill bits are diamond they grind the glass rather than drill it.
Very easy to use and perfect results from small holes like 6mm and 8mm if you need to put in rawl plugs for items.
But also the larger sockets and cores for radiator pipes, shower heads, waste pipes etc etc.

Guaranteed to work over multiple tile materials, solid tiles, mosaics, glass, porcelain, granite, composite, resin,
Whatever you need to do the kit will grind out the perfect hole.

Re: My second question - cutting glass mosaics
I use a sigma manual cutter for glass mosaics, your wet cutter will soak the mesh on the back of the mosaic and there'll end falling off the mesh..

Re: My second question - cutting glass mosaics
If you end up using a grinder to cut them use a grout float in the other hand to hold them down and keep them steady. Its easier to replace a grout float rather than a finger if you slip lol.
Dont try and cut them in one go theres more chance of them shattering. Go over them lightly first making a groove and then go over them a couple of more times while gradually cutting through them.

Re: My second question - cutting glass mosaics
I bought a mosaic mat for my montolit cutter from Dave at Trade Tiler...works a treat...and works on a few other manual cutters too. Only a few pounds but saves a lot of time...other than that as above in the other replies. Good luck.
