shower ceiling problem
Hello All,
What can I use to eliminate ceiling plasterboard being dampened when shower in use?
There is about 12" between shower head and ceiling. Some waterproof primers and paints
seem an option, or some form of plastic cladding stuck on the ceiling with sealant.
I'm trying to keep costs down, but also need to eliminate this damping.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: shower ceiling problem
Blimey that's quick!
Thanks for the help, presently "kitchen/bathroom emulsion".
Would I have to remove this prior to any sealing/priming?
Stewart, that pvc ceiling looks great, can I seal direct to ceiling
or include battens?
Thanks,
Chris

If ceiling is flat then you can fix it direct, but if uneven, then as kilty said, use batons to level.....

Re: shower ceiling problem
I have an extractor/light above mine. My shower head is also only about 12" from ceiling. Don't have any problems.

Re: shower ceiling problem
Shower dome is popular over here, its a clear perspex dome fitted over the top of the shower and sits and fixed to shower glass .Most old homes dont have extractor fans so its an easy fix. You might have something similar in the UK.

Are they very popular? the only reason i got one in is that we have a small bathroom in an old house. There is no extractor fan and during the winter we get the problem of mould starting to appear mainly over the shower. My wife got tired of cleaning it so opted with the dome.It workes really well no more mould and no more steamed up mirror=Happy wife=
happy me

Steam cabins = Rubbish
Poorly made tat, held together by dabs of superglue, garden hose and jubilee clips.

Re: shower ceiling problem
I win this.. I think my bathroom ceiling is about 7 inches or even lower from shower head. (old cottage, v v low ceilings upstairs)
My ceiling is just plasterboard, plaster skim, mist coat of emulsion and two coats of Dulux bathroom paint.

Re: shower ceiling problem
Same as davemul..... the Dulux bathroom paint is absolutely amazing. After 4 years in my en-suite & bathroom there is not a single spot of mould. I do have really good ventilation now as well though

Re: shower ceiling problem
I think thats the solution a really good painted surface and if you can manage it, an extractor fan as close to the shower as possible.

Re: shower ceiling problem
Well if Dave's is less than 7" (ceiling I mean!) and this Dulux seems ok,
then I might go for this. Only problem I have is when my eldest lad is
home, he's 6'5" !
Thanks everyone for the help.

Chris

Re: shower ceiling problem
We did a bathroom in Applestone a couple of years ago and the DIY lady of the house bought the Bathroom ceiling paint that went on Pink and dried White so she could see where she'd been. Only problem was when the steam hit the ceiling the pink ran all the way down her lovely White Applestone tiles!!!!!! Fortunately we noticed it the very next day and as the tiles had been thoroughly sealed it wiped off.
