going rate for tiling
I'm going to have 45m2 of travertine laid in a kitchen/garden room, bottom of stairs are and utility room, all areas linked. I've been recommended to a tiler by the stone supplier, they work with him a lot but not linked, they say he specialises in natural stone floors, he quoted £**m2. Is that the going rate for someone who really is good?
Thanks, AJ

If he comes reccomended, and you can afford it, then don't question the price. I'd ask for referals if your not sure.

Re: going rate for tiling
we do not give out prices in this forum but if you do some research in to the type of things that can go wrong with fitting natural stone you may look at the price of the installation by a specialist stone fitter in a different light.

How worried should I be about this Travertine install? **

A lot of work involved when it comes to stone, get what you pay for mate, not something you want a cheap amateur practising on.

Well said Gall.B
I specialise in stone and pride myself on the additional skills I have (and am still gaining).
How many times have we seen run-of-the-mill "tilers" ruin beautiful stone by treating it like ceramics?
There is no going rate as far as I know.
I am always wary of anyone charging by the meter.

Re: going rate for tiling
It's difficult to put a price on quality. I still haven't finished this sandstone floor yet..

If you can afford it, and his portfolio & references stack up then go for it, IMO.
Good luck,

Re: going rate for tiling
The price is what you are willing to pay for a quality job. Find a recommended tiler. In most cases you get what you pay for.

Re: going rate for tiling
thanks all, I just wanted confirmation that the rate sounds ok which it does. I do take the point that with a natural product quality re fitting is worth paying for.
