| pet hates | | just like to know what are your pet hates about tiling apart from grouting i think we all hate that. just for a bit of humour i wil start it of 1. people who think they are doing you a good turn by leaving all the tiles in the place that has to be tiled. first job lift them all back out. bless them
2. the ******* who walk on your newly laid floor when you are not there go back a couple days later and you have to lift half the floor and relay even thow you have told them not to walk on it for at least 12 hours

Forutnately only one tile moved, fortunately only standard SPF used and fortunately temprature was only about 6deg. I went back first thing next morning. I Was able to remove tile, clean up tile and area and re set tile OK.
But yeh! you get a real sinking feeling when you see it!
Second pet hate - making a mistake!

| My pet hate is a customer who sits and watches ... not to catch you out but because you're the first person they've seen in ages and because of their chatter you end up doing the job slowly or worse, making an almight f*%k up because of the distraction. | | |

Was tiling a large kitchen splashback for him and for the whole 3 days he would not leave me alone he sat about 3ft away from me and watched every single move i made chatting away in my ear all day, i was getting so ****ed off,a few times i thought to myself shall i tell him where to go. but i didint have the heart as he was a nice guy. Really uncomfortable working when you can feel eyes burning in the back of your head,it took me 3 days to finish when it shoud have been 2 and i wasnt that pleased with my finish as by the 3rd day i just wantd to get the f*** outta there....

| Not sure if this should be in pet hates or mistakes but here goes... Tiled a kitchen splash back for an ex colleague last week. Mates rates!!!! Turned up as agreed to find them still having breakfast and the kitchen full, and I mean full of crap, dirty dishes in the sink and the worktops chocca with microwaves, kettle and so on. Took me half an hour to clear it all before I could event seal the walls and get cracking! Anyway the tiles went on great and just about to finish grouting when I noticed a tingle in my hands when touched the sink! Checked it was earthed which it was but on reflection not sure what the earth was actually connected to. Next thing got a belt off the window sill id just grouted. Told the owner who fortunately was in and between us we checked all the plugs and such like to make sure all clean and free of grout or adhesive or screws touching wires etc. All appeared good. Managed to identify it was the central heating boiler timer control. When re connected, which I hadn’t take off the owner did, it made the whole place live but only when the boiler was running. Set the timer to stop the boiler running and it stopped everything being live. Now I hadn’t actually caused the problem just found it but yet I felt crap as I felt I was the cause and spent 2 hours trying to identify what was up. Couldn’t finish grouting and still waiting for sparky to go and look at their problem so still aint been paid either. Simple splash back took 9 hours and not finished yet nor any cash forthcoming and none of it my fault! Mates rates, easy job! NO SUCH THING!!! |
