Never heard of that before.
Wall and floor tiler in the West Midlands, Dudley, Stourbridge. www.nptiling.co.uk
If you work on a building site, you have to have Dust Face Mask Test and have a certificate to prove it

Never been asked that and work on loads of sites.

Surely it would be easier to ask on site ??

Big Companies have there own people qualified to do it, small ones like myself are left to fend for ourselves

More than likely it would be cheaper to buy a new one
Not sure you understand the point Jay, when cutting tiles you have to wear a dust mask, and now you have to be tested to make sure you are wearing the correct fitting mask, its pc gone mad in the uk,
Face mask

when i worked in a factory a few years ago we had to wear a 'half face' dust mask. we had to get fit tested annually, we had to say a prewritten verse whilst standing and bending over. the machine piped to the mask would check that a full seal was maintained at all times. we also had to be reasonably clean shaven (under 12 hrs growth) or that would cauuse the seal to fail. was a load of old tosh really cos as soon as the bosses weren't around we took them off
I agree Mike, a few hours stubble and the whole process is pointless, like i said PC brigade going mad

No peeps with beards on site then...

Be honest that the first time I've heard of that about the masks, fitting etc..

i don't know about other sites but i was working for rio tinto (big mining company) at the time and it's their company policy for employees to wear them in a dusty environment on site

Contact a decent independant engineers merchant who sell ppe.
They can arrange for a manufacturer's rep to visit and do the fit test foc.
Trust me. They will.
You will find that HSE are having a big push on dust face masks, i was at a management meeting today and HS officer said that there was serious concerns coming from HSE regarding silicosis, This is a lung disease caused by dust, at least 250 constuction workers died last year from it. So be aware it will come your way if it hasnt already.
