not happy with mapei ultracolour grout
i finally got round to laying my black starlight quartz tiles ( tilehq) and they look very nice too.
the problem i have is ..... when i ordered my tiles, adhesive and grout from tilehq i asked for black grout and the lady said "negro" was black so thought nothing of it and ordered .
i have grouted this morning and it semi dry yet the colour looks more like dark brown than black . im most unhappy as i wanted it black to match the tiles .
is my eyes playing tricks and this "nergo" by mapei is black or not ......
is there any way i can make the grout blacker , like rubbing a black dye/solution(without damaging the quartz tiles) into the grout or similar. is there something on the market for this purpose .
hope you guys can help and advise

Re: not happy with mapei ultracolour grout
Negro is indeed about as black as it comes....used it myself loads of times. Sounds like a mixing issue to me.
But it can be saved by using this Tradetiler Universeal Grout Colour

Re: not happy with mapei ultracolour grout
leave it a few days to thoroughly dry out to see the full colour, it may indeed go darker (or lighter) as it dries.

Re: not happy with mapei ultracolour grout
In most cases your'll find that you won't get pure black, it will be an extremly dark brown...

Re: not happy with mapei ultracolour grout
It's just Spanish for Black (probably couple of other languages too)

Nero is Italian, Negro is Spanish both for black.

There could be the problem. One made in UK, one made in Spain.

They are in different packets too, foil and polythene bags.

Re: not happy with mapei ultracolour grout
the foil bags come from spain and the others from italy. a good tip is not to mix them up if your on a big job as the colour may not match, ie. 111 from spain will not be the same shade as 111 made in italy.
as for the N word, it goes right back to the latin word for black, it is used in some European languages like romanian and italian . it's also supposed to be the most offensive word in the english language.

I don't think negro is an offensive word, it's a derivative of negro that's offensive.
