Smile When is a discount not a discount?

Hi

I am new to this game of trade discounts. I have cards that give access to places that have a better selection of tools etc, but I was suprised to discover that my '20% discount' was nothing of the sort.

I was recently quoted a price for a Rubi TR600S from a large concern with a 20% discount. I checked it against Buybrandtools, and following a quick email to Niel, I was able to purchase it, a Rubi washboy and the obligatory rubi nippers for £25 less than the price offered for the cutter alone.

Cheers Neil, nice one

Sully

oh and I have no affiliation the buybrands - just a happy customer

Just because you have a discount arrangement with a supplier, it doesn't mean you are necessarily getting the best price - as you have just found out. You will get 20% off the retail prices of that particular supplier. That suppliers price may well be higher than a competitor.

I have no doubts that you have had pay up front from BuyBrand Tools as you would with most retailers. Having an account at a regular supplier can give you better credit meaning you can do your work, get paid for it THEN pay your supplier for your stuff. Cheap prices and convenience don't go hand in hand in my experience.

CTD offer credit facilities so their prices may reflect this.

You will get excellent discounts from CTD on materials ( adhesives ,tiles etc ) but they can only give 10% on tools... i have been using CTD for yrs and i only get 10% on tools as well...but lots more on materials...once you get a good trading rapport with them then they reflect this in your discounts....
