Sealing top of tiles?????
Hi, im just on the finishing touches of installing my new shower room. the ceiling has been newly skimmed on boards and ready for painting. There is a very thin gap between where the wall tile and ceiling join.....My question is that would it be best to use silicone all the way around or would caulk be suitable??? please advise

I always suggest caulk as you cannot overpaint silicone

Re: Sealing top of tiles?????
Wouldnt caulk allow moisture to pass through at the top???

Re: Sealing top of tiles?????
I wouldn't think so possibly if there was a constant build up of steam in a tight alcove or low ceiling but an exstraction should have been installed to prevent that

Re: Sealing top of tiles?????
I'm a silicone kind of guy. I colour match to the grout so that it is inconspicuous and if you do a decent job with the silicone then it doesn't matter whether you can paint it or not.

Why has the joint at the top of the tiles and where the ceiling meet, not been grouted in anyway? Why leave the gap?

So if you use a flexible grout, say Bal superflex, surely that would help conceal the joint then go over it. If you even need to?

Re: Sealing top of tiles?????
IMO I find that caulk is far more flexible for this situation than any grout. Silicone in the corners and caulk around the ceiling.

IMO you should never grout an internal corner, as it will always crack! You should always use silicone on internals and where it meets the ceiling, you should use caulk if it's to be painted.
