|  Plying out 75 sq m. How long to fit? | |
Been asked to fit 75 sq m of 9mm ply to various rooms in a house prior to tiling. Customer supplying ply. Personally I don't think the floors need it as it's a new build & the floors seem very solid. Just wondering how long it might take to cut & screw it down to get an idea of how much to add to the job. Day rate I presume. Only ever fitted small amounts before. Thanks for your help

its ok then if it is marine ply, normal ply isn't!

Thanks Clays, I was going to charge day rate, but how long do you reckon to cut & lay 75 sq m? Skirting will have to come off as well, then replaced after tiling. Surely it will take a couple of days at least? | | |

personnely double check with customer they have the right material for you to do the job! nothing worse getting to a job & they assure you they have the right stuff only to find out its NOT!

Personally, I think it will take a while, a couple of days at least. 75m2 screwed AT LEAST every 300mm is going to take some time, I'd be more inclined to use a shorter pitch myself, therefore even more screws. Along with priming/sealing the back and edges................
Consider carefully the potential time to do this, I would suggest.

Hi mate,
base the job on around 3 days hard labour, plus 3 or 4 thousand screws with the traditional method of a cordless screwdriver and screws.
Otherwise use my method ...............
Invest in a Senco DS275, 18 Volt cordless screw gun. This fires screws in unbeleivably fast. On a floor this size you will get your money back straight away.
Don't tell customer how long it will actually take you, just put in normal price as though you haven't got screw gun ( most tilers haven't)
Screw gun will cost you around £270.00 - that is one and a half days labour cost
to you in real terms - believe me you will get this back ten fold when plying floors.
Screws cost around a tenner for 1000 from any builders merchants.
Wouldn't be without mine now !!!
The job will take you half the time
