DIY Related: Tiling Kitchen floor - walls just plastered

Hello all,

First post on this site so be gentle, i shall be tiling my kitchen floor as soon as the plasterer has skimmed the walls.
My question is, are there any reasons why i cant tile the floor as soon as the plasterer is finished, if so what is the correct amount of time i should leave.

if its not a newly laid floor, then i would let the plaster dry for a day just incase you knock into it and damage it, then you can crack on.

Just make sure that the floor is protected after you tile it if there is still other work going on. Some trades aren't that considerate...paint splatters can really spoil a nice floor just because someone didn't lay dustsheets etc

we tiled a kitchen floor about 7/8 weeks ago, black quartz 600x300. client spent over £1000 on 10m2. the floor was beautiful when finished. got a call the week later to come back up & look at the floor as there were swirl marks on a few of the tiles. we couldnt work out what the marks were till the client told us that the painter was in after us & hadnt protected the floor. Think he has tried wiping up paint with turps so we have to go back & rip up half a dozen tiles & lay new ones. nightmare!!!

From past experience I would always make sure all the other trades had finished in the room prior to tiling the floor. It is easy to walk on an untiled floor than to replace tiles.

Next day will be fine, make sure the floor is clean and prime if needed..

A question though.. what substrate have you..?

Dave, will be laying 300 sq black porcelain onto concrete floor

As Dave says, make sure that the floor is totally clean. Any dust from the plastered walls could cause problems
