Default methods of laying large tiles

    i am fitting my large 600 x 600 starlight quartz(tilehq) next week .
im very confused with all your termanology of thick bed , back skim , back butter , suare notch trowel , half round notch trowel.
1- how do i lay the addy on the floor .... do i use with a 12mm square notch or half round ( if half round what size do i need ).
2- do i simply spead the addy on the floor and then fully notch it so i see my concrete floor visable between each notch/trough OR do i not apply as much pressure and still have notched adhesive effect but no concrete floor visable between the notches ( 100% floor covered )..... also , what is this "thick bed" method !
3- what do i do to the back of the tile , do i notch that too or completely cover it in an even layer of addy but what thickness.
is there video footage demonstrating large tile being laid correctly to help keen diyers .
soory for all the questions . just a little aprehensive as ive never laid a 600 tile before.

Use a 10mm round notch and comb it evenly over the floor so the teeth of the trowel contact with the floor, this type of trowel will give you what is known as, a 'solid bed'. Also back skim the rear of the tile with the flat side of the trowel filling in the grooves in the back of the tile, this will help with adhesion. It's also worth mentioning that your floor needs to be very flat for lags format tiles, so check it out in detail before hand.

I'd making sure the floor is as flat as possible, it will make your job so much easier...

    Which adhesive are you using?
With quartz it's should be a latex based which isn't cheap though i have seen quartz tiled using a S1 adhesive and has been fine.

Really good advice above, the first thing to do is to make sure that the floor is as flat and level as possible, spread the adhesive as Bri has said and make sure that you press and twist the tile into the adhesive, you are trying to get 100% coverage under the tile as any voids will most likely crack the tiles. If you need to lift a tile and add some more adhesive, make sure that you do not apply it on blobs.
