Default Problems cutting porcelain with Rubi

    Hi Guys

Any tips for cutting porcelain tiles with a dry cutter, I am using the Rubi TS 60 plus fitted with a 10mm gold scoring wheel to cut 330 x 330 porcelain floor tiles but find it is badly chipping at the break point. I normally use a wet cutter to cut porcelain but thought the dry cutter would be a lot quicker for repetitive cuts.

As always any tips greatly appreciated.

    Mark

Try going down to an 8mm scorer , make sure you score the tile on its curved corner if it is not flat. I eventually got hold of a Genesis 60cm flat bed cutter after the bloke in the tile shop showed me how well it cut porcelain.

Hi mark mate... Tip for ya!!... Score the tile and then ease the tile away from the back fence then pull the snapper sharp and quick while exerting pressure with your other hand over both sides of the score line...works!!! try it....good luck...

Dave, sorry, I'm lost. Do you mean as you snap, other hand presses( finger & thumb) by the breaker, hand through rollers!

You can score then break over the upper park of your knee , holding each side of the tile, if it is not to close to one side. You have to bring the tile down firmly though.

You exert the pressure on the opposite end of the tile.. thus putting pressure on both ends of the tile......watch this video it shows in being done....

I get this sometimes with my Rubi TS Plus as well. You will sometimes be able to tell if the tile is not going to snap ok as you pull the handle down.
Usually pulling the tile away from the the stop point will do the trick, otherwise score it than snap on the rail.

Are the tile surfaces really heavily textured? Only had one tile I couldn't cut straight with my cutter (montolit) and that was because of the texture of the tile, couldn't score deeply enough to get a straight cut.

I gave up with my TS50+ and wnt back to Sigma.
I bought a klick-klock handle to go with it, and it cuts porc' great.
