Discuss tiling on floorboards in the Tiling Forum at TilersForums; hi guys,just completed tiling my walls in the bathroom and now going ti tile my bathroom floor which are floorboards,i am thinking of using backerboards 6mm is this good enough? ...

    Default tiling on floorboards

    hi guys,just completed tiling my walls in the bathroom and now going ti tile my bathroom floor which are floorboards,i am thinking of using backerboards 6mm is this good enough?

    what type of floorboards are they? tongue and groove planks or chipboard?

    I'd remove them and replace with 22mm wbp plywood and then use hardiebacker over the ply, adding extra noggins between the joists to eliminate deflection (bounce)

    not recommended mate, unless you can be absolutely sure that there'll be definitely no movement

    Make sure joints are staggered between the two layers and they would need to be at least 26mm thick overall

    hi cooper,if your floorboards are solid i.e. fix the damaged ones and check there is no movement then i would be happy to use 6mm cement boards

    is there movement in the floor at present

    A single part flexible to stick 6mm hardie down with screws, I use 25mm turbo gold from screwfix.

    as you said then cooper just a few damaged boards,cement boards would be my route a grey spf for the boards

    Aqua panel is one Hardie backer, no more ply, Glued and screwed, but only if zero deflection in sub floor.
