Do you seal the shower tray before or after you fit the shower door? I have had 2 plumbers telling me conflicting information. What's the best way to do it? Cheers :-)

i seal it after, otherwise the shower channel will not go flush against the tiles. i also seal between the tile and shower channel. the tray should have been sealed prior to tiling too

Thanks, at the moment I have got the shower tray fitted and the tiles have been put up to the shower tray, it is missing the final seal that goes around the shower tray, the tiler said to do this before putting on the door but the other guy said put it on after. So do you put on the final seal (going all the way around the shower tray) before or after. I thought after because of the weight of the door.

what's the weight of the door got to do with it? the tray should be on a sturdy base and the silicon is flexible. it doesn't have the weight of water like a bath. i seal it prior to tiling then again after i've fitted the door.

take it you mean were the wall tiles meet the tray
should be sealed before the screen is fitted (once screen is in you cant seal behind channel)

may i ask why the tiler has asked you to do it ///
also all internal corners should be silicone too

i seal behind the channel as i fit it, if you silicon first the channel won't go tight up against the tiles/tray

I always seal the tray first and then install screen, but I always raise the screen a couple of mil so not to damage the seal. If another company is installing the screen then I get them to do the final seal on tray, so there are no arguments as to who's at fault if there is a leak.

the channel will pull into the silicon making a good seal. i guess people will do it differently but that's the way i do it. i prefer to leave it to the plumber but quite often they'll get out of it by telling the customer they don't want to risk breaking the tiles whilst drilling

i always silicone so i know its watertight .with silicone being flexible the screen installers have no issues also tend not to have a big bead in corners

Always silicon around the shower tray before fitting the screen/door never known it to be done after the the screen/door has been fitted!
