How not to fit travertine
Watch this guy fitting travertine, now we all know the obvious problems with this installation but the bit i liked is when he was fitting tile no4, check the grout gap!!! plus, i think he may be getting about 40 - 50 % coverage at most with these slabs!??

Re: How not to fit travertine
I can't believe he thinks his work is so good that it's worth making a video of it! It's too late at night to list all the faults, it's a real shocker that one! Good find

Re: How not to fit travertine
I also liked the way the robert duval lookalike suggested by using conventional spacers they would not hold the weight of the tiles! Who does he think his audience is? surley not tilers!! Im glad he does realise that there is substantial weight with these tiles though, just a pitty he did not consider it a factor when even attempting to applying the correct amount of adhesive...idiot!
I recon some of those tiles have as little as 30% coverage if you look at the ones placed above the bath

Re: How not to fit travertine
Read the comments on the other videos he has, He hasn't bothered to reply or delete them either.

Re: How not to fit travertine
He said that the window wall ran out by 15mm - can't be much cement contact then.

Re: How not to fit travertine
That is really bad fixing.

Re: How not to fit travertine
I had a look at the B and Q replace broken tile. 'You might like to remove grout around the tile to make it easier'
. They show removing the tile is easy -when on fresh tubbed adhesive and fresh tubbed grout - both still soft.

Re: How not to fit travertine
When you see the clean 't' shirt you should expect the worse - but this is about as poor as it gets IMO.
Love the sound of the quality travertine, the perfectly square edges of the pieces, the skimmed plaster walls and his fixing practices are to be highlighted.

there should be a law against this kind of dribble on the internet.

Re: How not to fit travertine
This guy is a disgrace, a joke. He doesn't even know the difference between level and plumb. I tried to put a comment on You Tube but couldn't for some reason. This stuff should be banned imo

Re: How not to fit travertine
Dave liked your comments
had to give up watching the vid as it made me feel ill. Cant believe that he would install such large tiles unto a skimmed wall with virtually no coverage on walls and then recommends dot and dab lol.
Oh has anyone used the levelling tracks?

Re: How not to fit travertine
I particularly liked the way he chipped the edge of the tile with his "levelling tool" and didn't bat an eyelid.

Re: How not to fit travertine
I liked the way when he was fitting tile no 4 and the grout line didn't look right, he just pretended it was ok lol,...edgit! People like this guy really infuriate me, we all know he doesn't have a clue about fixing trav but Joe blogs would prob hire him as he comes over as very confident, way too confident imo! I can spot these types a mile away though, I may be buying a car or looking for a new mortgage, if I detect these sly, over confident, arrogant attributes in someone I have very little tolerance for them! The more I watch him, the more i dislike him!!!

Re: How not to fit travertine
exactly! I wonder who is audience is?? tilers??.. dont think so, be much cheaper and just as easy fitting a batton! Joe public??.. well thispiesce of kit ont solve any of the multiple problems someone with very little tiling knollage will come accross in the average installation. The guy seems so wrapped up in this piece of kit he cant even see its flawed as a product and as your still gonna need to hire a pro tiler! ?? edgit!!

wat a crap in invention....
I give him one thing .i do like the over sized spacers , they seem pretty handy.

Re: How not to fit travertine
i cringed when i seen him pull the piece of rough sawn timber from the end of the bath, i bet he scratched it. and pulling one tile off the wall to meet the other means it's out of the adhesive. he's a dab hand with that trowel , he must put all his tiles on with dot and dab
