The setting out looks fine mate. A tip from me would be, if the walls are all over the place, spend a bit of time on your prep work getting the walls or floor flat/straight, it will save you time and adhesive when you tile, and give you an overall better finish.

As Bri above.... Preparation is everything and is what makes tiling easier. Oh... And don't drink and tile. (;0)

Ready mixed adhesive is rubbish, use a slow setting bagged version.

ready mix is a dispersion adhesive and needs to dry .
if you take tiles off a wall put on with bucket addy and soak i water the addy will go soft so probs ot the best thing to stick tiles to in a wet enviroment cement based all the way (powder)

Lewis, ready mix is fine if the walls are nice and flat....plasterboard walls are the best for ready mix. As the guys say slow drying powder mix if you are having to build the tile out

It's no good in wet areas, the only place I would ever consider using ready mixed gear is on a kitchen splash back. No walls are perfect so using a cement based adhesive all the time will cover any issues, such as having to pack out. Wouldn't you agree?

And how often do you get nice flat walls? about as often as Osama Bin Laden used to be seen in tescos' buying crossaints and the sunday paper, (and that chance is now zero) ditch the DIY stuff and stick to bagged, you will encounter far fewer problems.

After a few bottles of Stella all walls look flat.
Preparation? Go to Tescos, buy a 24 pack of Stella. Give Bin Laden a wave.

Actually - if that is your first tiling - thats a good job. In fact it would be good if it was your 101st job - hence lack of criticism on this thread for anything except using dispersion addy and drinking Stella on the job.

Setting out looks sound, not sure what other options were around the door area to get rid of the bit of a slither up the side there but it does look sound as it is IMO.

I think I'd have ripped out that skirting board thing near the ceiling though - or whatever it is, doesn't look right in a picture to me, perhaps it doesn't look too bad in real life? Seems strange to have not bothered unless it does serve another purpose?

I think most people think tiling is easy, until they try it. Every job is a new challenge, it is never possible to criticize another tradesman's work without knowing the problems they had to overcome imo, your first job looks fine keep up the good work, keep away from the tubbed stuff, and the beer
