Default Silicone Sealants

Choosing the right silicone sealant for the bathroom, wet-room or kitchen can be a daunting task for the non-professional like me. Where to start?
There are so many silicone sealants in the market costing as little as £1.00 and going up to £10.00.
What is the real difference between one silicone sealant and another?
They are all flexible, watertight, mould resistant and similar chemical composition.
So how do you choose the best or most cost effective silicone sealant for the job?
What do you recommend?
What silicone sealants do all you profesiosnls use and why?
