kitchen floor advice
I got called out to price up a repair job on a kitchen floor and need a bit of advice. Half the kitchen is concrete, the other half is floorboards. The tiles on the floorboard side have started to come loose. The floorboard has been tiled twice already. The first time it was tiled directly to the floorboards and the second time a joiner boarded it out and then tiled it himself. The customer doesn't know what type of adhesive the joiner used other than that it came pre-mixed and it was from b&q. The customer also wants to re use all the tiles. Basically im just not sure about going ahead with the job(fairly new to tiling outside of college), i want the work, i just don't want the tiles to come up again once i'm done! Leaving me with a disgruntled customer and no future recommendations! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: kitchen floor advice
Ready mixed is no good for floors. How thick is the board ? Are the joists solid or is there a bounce. You might be able to save the tiles, they need soaking in water for 24 hours. What are the tiles and what size.?

Re: kitchen floor advice
no good floor tile adhesive will come off the back of the tile when soaked in water if it does it must be wall tile adhesive,if you are not to sure dont take the job on or you will have sleepless nights, start off with something you are confident of making a good gob of first and get your confidence built up that way

Re: kitchen floor advice
cheers for the replies.. not sure how thick the board is. floor is pretty solid.. the tiles are porcelain, 400x400.

Re: kitchen floor advice
If the floor was pretty solid then the tiles would still be stuck.
Is the floor across the same level? The should be an expansion joint across the divide between solid and suspended floors. Is the whole floor coming up or just onthe join?
