With me being pretty new to the industry, i looking to find out a fair price for fixing approx 24m of 600 by 300 porcelain tiles to the walls with a border and also approx 7m on the floor. I live in the merseyside area if that is any help.

Big tiles for the walls there Piehead mate. Make sure that the substrate is strong enough to support them. You will need a powder adhesive suitable for porcelain such as BAL spf and a flexi grout. I would be looking at around £600 for the walls plus about £250 for the floor, assuming there is nothing complicated. Plus materials of course.

Minimum £650 - £700 plus GOOD QUALITY adhesive and grout.

I did a very similar job recently and got a bit stung. I undercharged - the job took longer as I hadn't thoroughly checked the walls for being level. I ended up back buttering most of the tiles in order to chase the levels.

In the end the customer was happy (I have more work off them) but I was slightly out of pocket in terms of time and adhesive.

Check the levels carefully coz if they are crap, it will show real easily with 600x300's. Discuss with your customer first and include more adhesive if required.

For any job, it's always worth while saying in general a job like this will consume x amount of materials, but no two jobs are ever exactly the same, so theres always a chance you might need a little more of this or that.

Never had anyone complain with this and it covers you too.

In the price you have said do i charge for materials the retail price or the price that i pay. I have a trade account with topps tiles and i was going to use the bal range of materials for this job and i know they are pretty expensive. So if i charge say £600 plus materials i would then either charge trade price or retail price for the gear, this is where i get confused on pricing jobs up. Thanks
