Overboard with 6mm tile backerboard.

if the boxing in has been built to fit the tiles, you'd be better off to take the ply off, and replace it with a suitable backer board. just thought i'd mention this, as if you'd made the boxing to fit the tiles, overboarding would make the boxing in bigger, and the tiles may not fit exactly.

or plasterboard if its not in a wet area
so i cant tile directly on the plywood? i mean boxing in been done already.

it's not an ideal substrate to tile to, also depends what type of ply. if possible you will have to use bagged flexi adhesive

Not reccommended.

Yup.
Ply is cack for tiling on for walls.
always want to move.
Plasterboard would be better..even in a wet area - just tank.
