Question Advice Please - Insurance Job

Hi, I have just finished a shower room job which changed from a 'normal' job into an insurance job between me estimating it and starting the job and I have never been involved in an insurance job before.

My question is.... I have given them my invoice but I'm not not sure who actually pays me, the client (who then claims it back) or the insurance company directly?

If it is the insurance company, how long should I expect to have to wait to be paid?

    Cheers
    Stephen

I'd say it's the customer as the insurance company should make the cheque out to them. Have you discussed this with the customer and if so, what are they saying?

I have briefly discussed it with them but it's the first time they have done anything through the insurance as well, so they are as much in the dark as me.

well if you estimated it with the customer, then that's who I'd be invoicing.

I do quite a bit of insurance work and always get the customer to pay unless it's pre-arranged with them that the insurance company will pay me directly.

The client pays you for the job, make this clear to them, the insurance company pays the client.

I do and did an insurance job over christmas time they got me out to quote to fix they had to get two quotes they faxed them in to the insurance company they set a a figure they think is acceptable as most insurance work is inflated so they pays less usually. Then the assesors release a cheque to the customer and they payed me from that so in my experience its always the customer pays out!

If the insurance company is going to pay you they will contact you personally to ask for a broken down quote ie materials both using and cost labour charge etc etc if the insurance company have not contacted you it is up to the customer to pay you as per any over normal domestic work.

Make sure that the insurance company have agreed to the claim before you start work then the customer cannot claim that they are waiting for the chq
