Here's some pictures of a bathroom i've been asked to help rectify. I've already had to re-lay the floor tiles and renew the damaged ufh cable. needs a total rip out really but the customer can't afford it. job was done by a 'mate' . I was originally asked to tile it before xmas but was too busy. the shower leaks, grout in shower area was missing, all dot and dabbed with tubbed adhesive, some tiles broken and there's a 7/8 mm gap under the shower cubicle!! shocking work
We seem to be seeing more and more of this sort of thing lately. You have to feel sorry for the poor customers.
i do phil, i know the lady personally and i have helped them best i can. i've replaced the damaged tiles in the shower area and resealed the shower screen and regrouted the shower area but i have told her the shower area needs ripping out and tanking and retiling. she says she's gonna get me back when she can afford it. i.ve been there this evening to fix the bath to the wall and screw the toilet down as the plumber never done them. another so called mate!

BY THE TIME YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO REALISE YOUR PARENTS WERE RIGHT...........
YOU HAVE YOUR OWN CHILDREN TELLING YOU THAT YOU ARE WRONG......................
I'm assuming that the mate that you refer to mike is a friend of the customers and not yours.
Shocking tiling btw
yes chris, a friend of her husbands, nothing to do with me. apparently the 'tiler' said it's the best he could do with those bad walls! he also said he was going to come back to change the corner beads around the window as they were too small. they look the correct size to me just lipping due to the tiles being all over the place. he never came back obviously!
I could tile better with both hands tied behind my back and a blindfold on and a huge hangover, it always seems its the 'mates' that do the worst jobs, sometimes they charge very little so its had to complain.
shocking poor customer , also what gets me mad is that there is good tilers out there who are prob struggling for work, or just being under cut all the time by cowboys
There should be a bjotm (bad job of the month) category.
That's not a bad idea. Find out who did the work and send them a certificate or email with a link to the pictures of their 'work' on this forum. They might learn something too.
i have a lot of simpathy for this lady its shocking workmanship should have stoped him after the first days work must have seen it was going tits up pretty early in the week. Im a great believer in you get what you pay for if it sounds to good to be true it usually is i wouldnt expect to get someone to work in my house and not get a resonable wage for doing so.im fed up with people expecting it done on the cheap pay a decent wage for a first class job dont spend £1000 on tiles then expect somone to fit them for £200 quid this happened to me this week and im still smarting from it i dont know what its like in the rest of the uk but here in northern ireland its getting harder to earn a wage. Seems everyone is undercutting each other which in my opinion is not good for are trade everyone loves discount but £7 a mtr is bordering on insanity sorry for the rant but i needed to get that of my chest cheers!.
I am seeing more & more of this every year in my area. I know as well as anybody that it is getting harder to make a living just tiling. I see vans now advertising "so & so Carpentry & Property Maintenence". The property maintenece arena now advertises everything particularly tiling. How can a carpenter be a skilled tiler? There are a select few who can tile & im not singling out a particullar trade but plumbers, plasterers and decorators also fall into the catagory of "i can tile and i will be cheaper than a tiler!"
My carpenter can manage a basic splashback with good walls and is one of the best carpenters around but he will always give me the tiling, the same as my plumber but have to say he is not a bad tiler either. Between us three we make a living, not a fortune but our customers pays for what they get and allways recommended us to others.
I do have sympathy for those customers who literally cant afford a proper tiler or plumber as times around here are now paricularly hard to the point where we are now offering payments over three months and started this in October last year and does prove popular.
Just my little input as i do feel that if this situation carries on the way it is it will be near impossible to make a living just tiling.
Good tilers are quoting on jobs to deliver a A1 job and earn a reasonable living and then been under cut by unskilled chancers.
we have to feel some simpathy for the customers but if they chase the cheapest possible price they will get the worst possible job done.
like you say 'you get what you pay for'
I know what you mean spanish, im struggling this week for work. too many jobbers around here. this lady didn't go for the cheapest price tho it was because i was too busy at the time, she couldn't wait any longer after all the building work in the house. unfortunately she's learned the hard way but hopefully she'll spread the word about this cowboy and 'big al' will stick to his plastering! (but after seeing his tiling i wouldnt let him near my house with any trowel!)
