Replacing a floor tile

Got a small job tomorrow,,, replacing a floor tile in a bathroom. What is the best way to remove it without damaging the other surrounding tiles?

I was thinking cracking it with a hammer first........

Is this the best way? or what would you do?

I'd have a go at removing the grout from around it then a cold chisel in the middle and give it a good tap, and see what happens

remove all grout

chissel 1 corner offtile

from there remove the rest of tile

pour water over ribs of cement and leave for 15 mins then go back and smooth off floor ith scraper

now you are ready to replace tile

I tried removing the grout but it was absolutely solid.........didn't wanna risk cracking another tile. So i drill a hole in the middle of the tile & managed to get a screwdriver in the hole & prise the tile & luckily it cracked nicely.
Made sure i was really careful when lifting the tile as i didn't know if i would damage another tile. Grout was a nightmare to get of neighbouring tiles but managed ok. Anyway new tile went it perfectly, so i'm going back later to grout.

Oh! she wants me to quote her for the kitchen/lounge. Pretty good size as well (About 30 sqm) Think she wants to use 150x150 tiles.

What would you think a reasonable price per sqm would be?

Just goes to show you never know what work you can get if do a good job & come across friendly.

20quid m2 plus materials.

yep same as brian but add a couple of metre on for cuts etc..

She wants 100x100 tiles in brickbond......how much would you charge for this job per sqm please....??

I offered to grout the whole bathroom as a favour because the one tile i replace would really stand out....she was really pleased with this offer....but what a nightmare as the grout was black..........talk about messy...

I ruined my grouting trowel as it's now badly stained black, plus grout sponge & my buckets.........It was BAL grout & sets really quickly........took ages & difficult to keep it from getting everywhere......I'm also black now.

Still doing a favour like that will be worth it if she accepts what ever my offer will be.

Hi,

Id suggest as above at least £20 per m2, make sure you get a balance between being helpful and ending up out of pocket, if you have already had a days labour
and damaged tools for nothing, you may also surprise the customers cost expectations if they gets a labour bill of £600, before materials and buying the tiles... when shes got her bathroom looking brand new for nothing, hope that makes sense mike...?
