Default How long does plaster skim need to dry before tiling

Hey I am having my bathroom plasterd. On 3 of the walls the plasterer is skiming over the old plaster as it is firm. On the other wall he is dot and dabing some plasterboard on to skim over. How long will this plaster skim need to dry before I tile on to it. I could do to tile it as soon as possible. Thanks for any advice.

Skim takes about 1 day per mm to dry, but I'd say just use your eyes! It will start to go lighter in colour as its drying. Wait until its all the same light pink colour and then tile away (after priming and setting out of course!)

I like to give it a couple of days on plasterboard, reskims with a pva used on existing plaster or painted surfaces a bit longer

It would be better NOT to skim the plasterboard.

As John says, better not to skim the plasterboard, it will be able to take more weight, no waiting for plaster to dry either. What's wrong with the other walls that they need skimming, are they bad ? If they're not, then a bigger notched trowel to take up slight irregularities would be the way to go.

depending on the conditions of the wall that are being re-skimmed ie is there any cold spots, exterior wall, damp etc and given the time of year, id give the re-skimmed walls 2 weeks to dry out, althought the official time period is 4 weeks as stated by mike fiesta.

as for the dot and dabbed wall, then as above.... dont skim. ie ready to go, higher weight ratio.. but make sure the plasterer uses plenty of dabs of adhesive so that you know that it can cope properly with the size/type of tile.
