That is a bit unusual isn't it.
    Good advertising for you though.

    nice video

G in the youtube video change the web address in the text description from makeitsomosaics.co.uk to http://www.makeitsomosaics.co.uk For some reason you tube will only make it a link if you put the http:// in front

I don't mind, as I had included my website and phone number in the video, free advertising, I am not complaining! I think I could have made it private on YouTube, but I made this clip to show what I can do, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned... I was just so surprised! It's been a day of good surprises, amazing!

Ah, got it, you meant put the http in front. It is a nice video, this nice Italian fella I know gave me the opportunity to make it I will be renewing my website soon, into a completely different one, so will revisit this then - can I still change things even though that account has run out now?

I ment change the web address in yo tube, in your account go to 'My Videos' and then edit the text in the description box. but if you mean change you edit the video itself, then not at the moment but I will be re-activating that account to make some new vids in maybe a month of so (maybe longer??) so when I do i'll give you a nudge

I think it is great, good for you.
I just thought it a bit unusual for a company to just go ahead without at least an email or a quick call, but it is still a great bit of advertising for you.

My husband felt the same, he was really quite taken aback, Alberta, but I was just chuffed, if they had taken my name out or something I would have been dead grumpy, but they didn't and put the details on the page as well, so I am just taking it as a compliment

That website is owned by SafetyNet.co.uk, they've setup other websites collecting Google Adsense cash (those are the ads on their websites) using other peoples content. I'd contact them and tell them to remove it or pay a royalty to use it. Just because it's on youtube and you have enabled embedding, doesn't mean you actually want everybody to use it.

They make money out of that website with your content, so I'd be asking for money or for the content to be removed with immediate effect.

They setup a website, but know nothing about tiles (or any of the other subjects they setup websites about) and then "scrape" the internet for related content. That content then ranks and gets found in search engines, and a % of the visitors to the website will always click on an advert or two (provided by Google) and they get a cheque each month for stealing content, basically.

I'd kick off personally but it's your call.

Does this sound ok? Just draftet the email:

    Hello

I just noticed you are using my video on your site - that would be quite a nice thing to do if you had asked me permission and if your company was indeed tiling related, but considering your site makes money from the Adsense cash via the interest my video generates on the page I would ask you to either remove it or pay me a royalty of sorts.

Looking forward to hearing from you what you decide to do.

    Sincerely

As Dan said they wont pay - so that would mean - no advertising.
It's a compliment that they've used it. I don't agree that they've scraped the internet for a video and used it. They've found something completely different and it's being used to promote business ( theirs and yours). But what would I know!

Well that's what I thought really - I looked at their other videos, loads of which are tiling related, never looked at any of them, but I must admit I am confused as to weather I should be cross about it or not... if they make money from their efforts compiling things, is that such a bad thing? As usual I can see both sided and have no idea which is right.... haven't sent it off yet ..was waiting for Dan's reply and having a cup of tea...

    Email looks fine Gisela.

    John,

ALL of the content on ALL of their websites (check safetynet.co.uk for the rest, it's JUST what they do, nowt else, just this) isn't unique and hasn't been created by them. They borrow it from other websites and of course they've give a link back where applicable. But they're then ranking them and the main focus is on the adverts above, below and beside the content, so they get good conversions in clicks, and cash for it. If they took mine I wouldn't see it as a compliment and they'd be taking it offline at the start of business tomorrow or their website would be offline by close of business tomorrow.

If it was a well known website and a little less focus on ads, and they wrote/owned at least 50% of content they published, as they linked back, I wouldn't be too fussed and perhaps would see it as a compliment. But that's not the case at all.

I'd have to ask Howard as my site is within his site, but my website is there separately checkable re the stats... he's up to his ears in something right now, but I'll ask him to have a peep later...

Obviously note the fact that we would have probably clicked on the link in the blog post. I certainly did to check its actually clickable, which it is.

So perhaps take stats from December or whatever.

more hmmmpff.. Howard just checked and I was wrong, as my page is just one page within his larger website it just shows how many referrals come from me to the rest of his site, so I won't know. As I told you yesterday (pm?) we are changing our website approach and I will have my own independant one, just have to do it now...!! So will have properly independent stats. But Howard did just look again at the safetynet site, confirming the way they work as to what you told me but did say on balance, if I was happy with it it probably wouldn't do any harm... if I look at my LinkedIn stats, they are really pathetic, too, so maybe it's just the luck of the draw who looks where....?
