Advice Please - Re-Tiling a bathroom floor
Hi all,
I have been to see a job yesterday where the bathroom has all been fully tiled (Walls and Floor) a couple of years ago.
The owner now wants me to re-tile the floor as the grouting is coming out and the tiles are very uneven - I suspect there bas been some movement in the floor. The floor has been tiled with ungraded natural slate tiles, a few of which have also begun to flake quite badly.
The main problem though is that they had under tile heating installed at the same time which they would like to keep.
How would you approach this job?
I suspect that getting the current floor up without damaging the under tile heating would be nigh on impossible anyway and I'm pretty sure the best way to proceed would be to rip up everything and start again with Hardiebacker board, then replacement under tile heating then new tiles......
Cheers
Stephen

Re: Advice Please - Re-Tiling a bathroom floor
I'd rip it out and start again. You have no idea how the original tiling was fixed, so it would be foolish to attempt to tile over what's there, (even if this is a possibility!). If you go this route and what you have fixed fail's, then you'll be liable for it.
Start again would be my advice.

I take it the substrate is timber........ If so, then the floor has to be taken right back and then start from scratch, meaning there's no way to save the heatmat.

As stated above, that is the only way to go as how can you warranty your work built on the foundation of another?
