| Mosaic Tile spacing problems | | The last couple of jobs I've done with mosaic have given me serious greif. The problem has been the spacing of the tiles on the sheet, one lot was tumbled stone and the other pocelain 2" squares both of which were expensive and from well known retailers. Some sheets the tiles are almost touching and the next one are all over the shop. On both the jobs I ended up cuttin at least 30% of the tiles off the sheets and laying individual tiles a real pain in the doings!!
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem, its made me think its not worth the aggro!

Spleen (not a happy mosaic tiler)[/quote]Every credit for seeing it through...mosaics are detailed and intense work at the best of times...I think on reflection that you should have insisted on replacements....Gaz |

Cutting and laying individual mosaic tiles
I guess all credit to you for going to that length, but I wouldn't have done.
I'd of told the customer they had a faulty batch and need replacing, and can't make a good job out of them as they are.

| Re: Mosaic Tile spacing problems | | Just gone through a similar problem had to remove all the mosaic from the sheet and lay each and every one individualy what a pain, like the above thread the mosaic's spacing was all over the place and at £11 a sheet I would have expected better, also the colours were not mixed on some sheets, some sheets were totaly white where as the otherswere mixed, tile was a 2" marble mosaic, customer got the topps area manager out who blamed me tipical I was not there to defend myself, anyways customer agreed he was an ass***e . | | |

| Re: Mosaic Tile spacing problems | | I think the problem is mainly with mosaics that are made up from the bi product of a factory's main product. It's a great way of cutting down on waste, just cut it up, back it and hey presto we got us a mosaic! The first time I had this problem was on mixed marble / travertine, the spacing was all over the place and some pieces had been stuck on upside down.
The next time I quote for mosaic I won't be pricing until I've actually seen it and taken it out of the boxes and examined a good few sheets. I agree the best course of action was replacement but in both cases the problem was the retailer could see nothing wrong and thats just how mosaic is!!! Oh how stupid am I not to know that, d*ckhe*ad.
At least I'm not alone in finding this prolem, thought it was just me being picky!
