    Default expansion joints

hey was just reading the chaps post whose having the problem with the tiles cracking and a few folk mention expansion joints are these those strips with the rubber in between and in what situations would they be used. i know how timber moves and changes shape from the laminate floors and timber work ive done in the past. i didnt realise that tiles would move as much but then i suppose all material,s expand and shrink to some degree due to temperature and moisture ????

Dave it's not exactly to do with the tiles, but the substrate that they are laid on top of.

a lot of peeps don't realise about substrate expansion Dave and look horrified when you start mentioning the need for expansion joints, but expansion joints look a helluve lot better then a heaved floor.

between the tiles, there's different types of purpose made joints, you could also use a wide silicon joint to match your grout

Is there any way I can obtain the BS section on the distances for movement joints? The standard is expensive to buy as a complete set and I only need part 4 2009. I need to know the recommended expansion joint distance for ceramic tiles in external applications.
