Re: Spacing tiles with string?
A mate who's dad is/was a tiler for 60 something years has used string of sorts for spacing on a run of tiles..
Not something you see now though

ive used this way a few times with the wavey edge tiles(on walls) its a good method and quick i learned this trick in france when i worked there for a couple of years, but its no good if the tiles are to heavy cos it squashes the string to much.

Re: Spacing tiles with string?
Not here in the uk but have used 'cabo' in the north of spain a few years back.
it actually works well and your joints are cleaned as you withdraw the cord.

Re: Spacing tiles with string?
have seen it done a few times in years past but it was always by awful tilers it never looked good and the tiles were much smaller the largest 6" x 8"

Re: Spacing tiles with string?
If that don't work with tiles could always double as shoe laces and belts

Re: Spacing tiles with string?
I've used it on wavey edged tiles, and actually advised this way somewhere on the forum

Re: Spacing tiles with string?
Tiling with cord is a skill like any other aspect of tiling, if you know what your doing it works well.
the tilers i worked with where highly skilled tradesmen and could work with the cabo as well as we would with spacers and wedges.
personally i like to try my hand at some of the more traditional methods for the experiance of doing it
skills like 'wet bedding' and 'semi dry bedding' between lathes are dying off but again work well if you know what your doing
we can learn from the past

Re: Spacing tiles with string?
I use to use string but haven't done for years, when tiles became bigger. Don't knock it till you've tried it, it has its advantages, speedy when you get the hang of it and takes seconds to remove all the "spacers" on a wall

Re: Spacing tiles with string?
I was taught using string sometimes, that was when we didn't have 600 x 300 stone tiles
Handy on small tiles 100 x 100 or 150 x150 (saves all the pegging and spacers), but squashes under the weight of the larger heavier ones
Each mistake is another step to perfection
