Tiling on to Quarry Tiles - good idea?
Hi All,
I would like to tile (DIYer with med experience) directly onto quarry tiles to maintain an existing floor level - but am having big doubts about adhesion!! Can anyone share any tips / past experiences? Are there any primers and addy that anyone would recommend?

Have you tapped the tiles to check if there hollow or loose

yes mate - they totally rock solid and sound. the house is old and they are very well laid and about 3 inches thick. What do you reckon?

over 100 years.. maybe 3 might be a bit over but they are not far off! Ive had to lift some in another area for another job and it wasnt easy!

They are laid on a mixture of cement and cinders... you can hit them with a sledge hammer and they dont even crack or move!!!

no dpm. had a few up in another area and no probs at all. Ive had a look for other threads but cant really find any advice! I want to lay some cheap ceramics as its only a utility room and loo!

Personally I would clean them and treasure the old floor but it's not what you want, I would clean them down with LTP grimex to remove any old wax etc LTP Online | Product Basket
I would also use a decoupling membraine to isolate the floors CI Matting - Why Use CI.
If the floor has deviations a self leveling compound could be used to level out
I use a single part flexible powdered adhesive fast set to stick the membraine down with, use a powdered adhesive to lay the tiles

i would try to keep the old tiles, shame to cover them up
