Recommendation: white tiles what grout colour?

evening there people,

I am looking for some advice really i am tiling the bathroom with 400x300 white tiles and dont know what colour to grout them.

i was thinking black,but could that be a bit to much? the tiles wiill be laid with a brick formation and they will be going on the walls.

If you do them black, the tiling would have to be spot on........

white or black,if black make sure the tiling is flawless

sorry that sounds rude,what i mean is have you tiled before as anything barr a flawless finish with black gtout will look bad

Not keen on dark grouts with white tiles, not only does your tiling have to be spot on, but so do the tiles. It does show up every imperfection........ but it's all about personal preference and what you want at the end of the day.

- I'd go for white - but if you do choose black do a test first to see if the colour bleeds into the side of the tile forming a 'frame'.

Also..... your finishing with the grout will have to be perfect aswell. Black grout on white tiles will show EVERY single uneven line in your finishing.

As Whitebeam says, your grout lines will need to be spot on if you go with black grout. Do you like the "in your face" contrasting look or the more subtle finish?

Personally, with a tile that size I would probably opt for brilliant white grout.

Another thing to consider is, if you grout in white then you can change the bathroom colour scheme over the years with a careful choice of towels and accessories. If you go with black you have pretty much dictated the colour scheme until you replace the tiles, IMO.

looks like i will have to sway over to white then lol, i was only sayin black grout cause the floor and shower area wil be done in black tiles

Do you want to look at the tile or the grout?
Seen black and blue grout on white tiles and I think they looked horrendous

Black grout against white tiles can look messy if not spot on.The only time I thought it looked right was when I tiled car washes and we used a 10mm joint. I find when you use a darker joint than the tile, your eyes are drawn towards the joints and not the tiles.

I have white tiles and white grout in my bathroom and black tiles with silver glitter grout on the floor. I think it looks good, but I'm sure not everyone agrees. You need to think carefully and make your decision based on what you like now and what you think you will like in 10 years, too.

I used some Mapei ultra colour 111 grout, it is a silver grey on white tiles the other day, and i looked very tasty, not in your face like black.

Hi wassyy, just had a look through my photos cant find one with white tiles and black grout but have this one of the other way round, like captain slow said it is very 'in your face' might give you an idea of the impact this sort of design hasS7300375.jpg.

hello wassyy I agree with the other posters. If you can't pull off a finish like the picture posted by brian then use white grout, it will hide a multitude of sins especially with a brickbond pattern.

I'm not keen on black grout - but maybe thats just cos i've experienced the joys of using black grout.

If white's not your flavour - I quite like the effect of a nice light grey on white tiles.

I agree with all points made here. BAL do a grout called gunmetal which looks cracking with white tiles. Its a light grey/silver colour when dry.

I think I'd only go with white too. Though it looks a little clinical, it does look clean when it's clean even years later. And as said already, you can always change the colour scheme of the bathroom by accessorizing using different coloured towels and fittings (and if you're my other half, even the shower gel and shampoo has to match in colour!!!!!).

i done a dominos pizza many years ago ,right next to preston north ends ground and we had to use black grout on white 8x8 tiles,what a fiasco,the joints looked fine,but it showed off every scratch on the glaze of the tile,washing off was a nightmare and polishing off was ten times worse.

I swore never again and touch wood the situation has never arose again.
