Re: big ply sheets
What thickness were the sheets?

You need to get to the gym....... I only ever buy large sheets, but for smaller rooms, it's sometimes impossible to put in a full sheet due to pipes and stuff, so you have to cut them down and put in an extra join.

Re: big ply sheets
I cut them downstairs/outside then take them up stairs. For out of square rooms i use my 4 foot folding square against the longest wall and measure the differential, actually harder to describe than do !!

Re: big ply sheets
it was 22mm ply.the room is only 2060mm at the longest side but after cutting to size downstairs, because the room was so out of square i had the sheet up down, up down, trimming it with my jigsaw.awkward! maybe the gym is the partly the answer.

Re: big ply sheets
when i say up down, up down i dont mean up and down the stairs, i mean trying to lay it flay on the floor then squeezing it back upright in the small bathroom and trimming.

Re: big ply sheets
That's pretty heavy ply to be handling yourself ok.

You could have used 18mm.

Re: big ply sheets
it was a killer, but it was the first time i`d done it.i was weighing up the benifit/hastle ratio between 1200 by 2400 or 1200 by 600.had i used the smaller sheets it would of been a breeze to fix but i didn`t want too many joints.that`s why i was wondering what size you all used.

Re: big ply sheets
6mm marmox or schluter 1250 x 600 weigh per sheet 2kg, save on gym fees!

Re: big ply sheets
Thinner ply onto floorboards then cover all joints with Hardie/marmox/knauf whichever you prefer.
Even with 22mm direct to joists i'd cover the joint/joints with the above or Ditra/similar.
Mind you I'am 6'8" and 18stone so 22mm boards are no touble for me

Re: big ply sheets
i use 22 mm structured ply (tongue and grooved at both ends )comes in sheet size 2400 x 600mm .ideal for preparing floors for 22mm impey aquadec wetroom trays when old chipboard has been removed .if going ontop of chipboard when just tiling i use either hardi or no more ply 6mm glued and screwed.
